Alleged Assault: Deeper Life School Principal, Others Granted N500,000 Bail Each

The magistrates’ court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each to the principal of the Deeper Life High School, Uyo, and four accused persons in the case of the alleged molestation of an 11-year-old Junior Secondary School 1 pupil, Don-Davies Archibong. According to The PUNCH, the seven accused persons arraigned were Mrs Ndidi Solomon (suspended Principal), Joseph Nseabasi, Akpan Johnson, Egor Wilson, Joseph Ikenna, and two minors, Shalom Ibukun and Ola Feyisetan. Sowore, Four others Arraigned in Abuja For Alleged Public Disturbance

The publisher of online platform, Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has been arraigned with four others before a Magistrate’s Court in Wuse zone 2, Abuja by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Sowore,Juwon Sanyaolu, Damilare Adenola, Peter and Kimrere were by the the Special Weapons Tactical Team of NPF in Abuja over their alleged participation in a protest march on the eve of the New Year celebration. They were arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and public disturbance. Gov Lalong Assents to N147bn 2021 Budget

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has signed the N147bn appropriation bill and the state anti-kidnapping bill into law. The House of Assembly in the state had raised the 2021 appropriation bill to over N147bn from the initial N133bn presented to it by Governor Lalong. The Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Macham Makut said, the adjustment in the figure was done by the lawmakers to accommodate more interests before passing the bill which has now been signed into law by the governor, Punch reports. Court Declines Maina’s Adjournment Request

A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the request by Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, for an adjournment to prepare for his defence. The preceding judge, Justice Okon Abang held that the request was intended to waste the judicial time of the court. Justice Abang had on December 4, 2020, adjourned the N2bn money laundering case till Tuesday (today) based on a request by Maina’s new lawyer, Mr Adaji Abel, who solicited for more time to enable him to prepare for the case. #EndSARS: Arrested Protester, Eromosele, Regains Freedom After 12 Days

Social activist, Eromosele Adene, has finally regained his freedom from unjust detention of the Nigeria Police Force. Adene was arrested by the police on November 7 from his home in Ikeja, Lagos. He was taken to Abuja for interrogation before he was returned to Lagos for trial after 10 days. He was arraigned in court on four count charges of cyber-stalking and activities likely to cause breach of peace. He was granted bail on Tuesday by Magistrate Folarin Williams of the Yaba Magistrate Court. Court Orders Maina’s Arrest, Trial in Absentia

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the arrest of the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, adjudged to have jumped bail regarding his trial involving N2bn money laundering charges. Justice Okon Abang made the order in Wednesday’s ruling in which he also revoked the bail earlier granted the fleeing defendant. He ordered all security agencies in the country to arrest Maina “wherever he may be found” and produce him in court, “without delay”. The judge also ordered that the defendant’s trial would proceed in his absence pending when the defendant would be produced in court. The names of seven alleged victims of the October 20 Lekki shootings have ‘surfaced’ at the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and other matters. Their lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika SAN, told the panel that he had a petition on their behalf against the Nigerian Army. Army personnel attached to the 81 Division, have arrived the venue of the inquiry into the alleged shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos on October 20. A 24-hour curfew has been declared by the Godwin Obaseki led Edo state government. This curfew is to commence from 4pm today, the 19th of October across the state.
