Court Declares Ebube Agu Operations Illegal In Ebonyi

An Ebonyi State federal high court in Abakaliki has declared the activities of the south-east security outfit, Ebube Agu, illegal in the state. Recall that the south-east states governors had in April 2021, announced the establishment of the security network as part of measures to curb insecurity in the region. The court while ruling on Tuesday, ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, and police to retrieve all the weapons in the possession of Ebube Agu operatives in the state. The presiding judge, Riman Fatun, said the grounds for disbandment were connected to human right abuses, extortion, and illegal arrests. Gov Matawalle Orders Arrest of Persons Rejecting Old Naira Notes

Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle has asked security operatives to arrest anybody who refuses to recognize and accept old naira notes for transactions in the state. The governor issued the directive at a swearing-in ceremony of the new High Court Judges and Special Advisers held at the Government House Gusau on Friday. Matawalle described the redesigning of the currency as ill-timed and wrongly implemented. A Justice Mojisola Dada Ikeja Special Offence Court on Tuesday condemned a 32-year-old vulcaniser, Chidozie Onyinchiz, to death by hanging for stealing N57,000 from a nurse. Justice Dada ruled that the prosecution had proved the charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, and membership of an unlawful society against the accused. The Justice also held that that the convict’s attempt to wriggle out of the charges was futile. Nigerian Man Sues Malaysia Govt N406m For Unlawful Detention

A Nigerian man identified as Simon Mamoh, has filed a N406 million suit against the Director-General of Malaysia Immigration Department, Khairul Dzaimee Daud, and three others for alleged unlawful detention and deportation. Mamoh alleges that Malaysian immigration department detained him illegally for 40 days before ordering his deportation from Malaysia to Nigeria. The Nigerian in a lawsuit filed in the High Court of Shah Alam on January 10, listed the compensations being sought to include RM2 million in general damages at a rate of RM50,000 for each day of his unlawful detention, which lasted from March 15, 2021, till April 23, 2021.
