Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kola Olagbondiyan, has disclosed that Governor Nyeson Wike of Rivers State almost had a heart attack over an issue concerning the party.

Olagbondiyan while commenting on the internal friction in the PDP when he appeared on Arise TV in the early hours of Friday said Governor Wike almost suffered a heart attack when former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara left the party.

The former PDP spokesman described Governor Wike as a party loyalist who will not leave the PDP despite the outcome of the party’s Presidential primary election conducted in May.

Recall that Governor Wike lost the party’s presidential ticket to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Olagbondiyan said, “I always tell people about this. When the former Speaker, Honourable Yakubu Dogara left the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Wike nearly suffered heart-attack. That is love, that is passion for your political party,” he said.

“People who are saying that Governor Wike will leave the party I do not believe they have the understanding of Governor Wike.

“Governor Wike declared that notwithstanding whosoever emerges as the candidate, he remains a party man. But you cannot see a man who has a complain and you say he shouldn’t complain.

“He has the rights. If he believes as a member of the party and a pillar of the party that he is, if he believes that things have not been done well [he should be listened to].”
