DSS Nabs Sellers of New Naira Notes

The Department of State Services, DSS, has nabbed some members of coordinated syndicates that sell the newly redesigned naira notes. The DSS public relations officer, Peter Afunanya, in a statement on Monday said that the syndicates connived with some commercial bank officials and were arrested during operations across the country. Corpse Disappears From Ogun Mortuary

A female corpse yet to be identified scheduled to be buried on Saturday has been reported missing from the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State. A source at the hospital who spoke to Punch said the drama began on Friday when the family of the deceased came to the hospital to take the body for burial only to discover that the corpse was missing. According to the source, the body which was deposited at the morgue on October 2022 could not be found among 69 other bodies shown to the family for verification. Reports say two attendants in charge of the morgue fled the premises. Prof Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has asked the Medical Board of the varsity to urgently carry out a careful investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of a student. The deceased, identified as Miss Precious Agini, was a third-year student of the Department of Library and Information Science, who died on Saturday, January 28 at the varsity’s Medical Centre. INEC Announces Extension Of PVC Collection Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced an extension of the deadline for the collection of permanent voter cards, PVCs. This marks the second time the electoral umpire will extend the deadline for PVC collection. The collection was scheduled to stop on January 29. According to the national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, the decision was reached after a meeting on Saturday.   INEC said that the new deadline for PVC collection is February 5. 2023 Election: Suspend Academic Activities In All Tertiary Institutions – Reps Tells FG

The house of representatives has asked for the suspension of academic activities ahead of the elections. The lower legislative chamber asked the regulatory bodies of tertiary institutions, the National Universities Commission, NUC, National Board for Technical Education, NABTEB, National Commission for Colleges of Education, NNCE, and the ministry of education to shutdown tertiary institutions to allow students travel to the areas where their polling units are located.
