Opinion: The “Terrorists” of IPOB – Femi Fani-Kayode

I watched my brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s interview with my brother Chief Dele Momodu on Thursday evening and I was inspired and encouraged. Nnamdi spoke with such eloquence, passion, courage and strength. He is brilliant and irrepressible. He cannot be underestimated or ignored. Every African should listen to that interview. He cleared a lot of misconceptions about himself and made his position clear on so many issues. Most important of all is the fact that he had the decency and humility to tender his regrets and apologies where he may have got things wrong. That is the mark of a great leader. President Muhammadu Buhari I have loved and trusted him dearly ever since the first day we met and spoke for 3 hours when we were both incarcerated at Kuje prison in 2016. From the firs...

The governor reiterated its ban on the activities of the IPOB across the state in conformity with the proscription of the group by the Muhammadu Buhari led federal government. This was disclosed during a state broadcast on Friday by governor Wike who noted that Mgbere led members of the IPOB to perpetrate destruction of lives and property in Oyigbo Local Government of the state. Police Warns Against IPOB Oct. 1 Sit-at-Home Call

Police authorities on Wednesday warned against the call by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for a sit-at-home on October 1. The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Philip Maku, warned IPOB to steer clear of the state while stating that the proscribed group does not have the legal right to tell citizens to sit at home. In his reaction to the directive by the leader of the proscribed group, Maku said: “People have the fundamental right to movement. If you try to restrict their right to move about and transact their lawful business activities, you are crossing the red line. “If anyone tries to force people to sit at home, the Police will not fail to deal decisively with such persons,” he warned. IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu had earlier said the call to sit-at-home was to ...

IPOB: Orji Kalu Begs for Nnamdi Kanu’s Return

Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor has asked Nigerian government to permit leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to return to Nigeria. The Senate Chief Whip said negotiations for Kanu’s return would involve abandonment of his movement for the creation of an independent state of Biafra. Kalu’s appeal was made on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The former governor expressed displeasure at misleading statements and unverified reports media houses publish about him. He cited an instance of his promise in an interview to transform Nigeria to a 21st century nation if he had the chance to govern the country but some online news outlets misquoted him to have said the 20th century. “I am a friend of the ...

Opinion: What do these Biafrans Really Want? by Pomonua

I asked this question because the noise from their agitation is really taking a nuisance pitch and dimension. Let us set the records straight, the British continues to have an interest in the affairs of Nigeria and its governance. The country is a major source of earnings for them. When they departed upon independence, they entrusted its affairs in the hands of those they could trust; those who will allow them unfettered access to those things that fueled their economy. That is how the Fulani came to be in power. Biafra knows that Britain is the unseen hand working behind the scene to frustrate its actualization, even though the face of the Fulani is what you see. If in doubt, watch this video of the confession by Harold Smith, one of the principal participant during that episode.  ...

Resolutions Reached The Meeting Between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Some Igbo Stakeholders Being Facilitated By Nzuko Umunna (Bridge Builders) at the Peace And Reconciliation Meeting On July 5th, 2020. The discussions held between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and some stakeholders of Igbo land and the resolutions agreed thereupon are as follows: 1. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has legitimate reasons to be angry. The failure of leadership in Igbo land is a critical issue that has to be addressed urgently. However, there is a need to move away from verbal attacks and abuses /insults on elders and neighbours of the Igbo nation. 2. The personal sacrifices Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has made for the cause and rights of the Igbo nation is highly appreciated and honoured by many Igbos. Most Igbos love Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and this is...
