President Buhari To Reopen Borders Soon

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, had a closed door meeting with the nation’s 36 state governors on the security challenges across the country. He explained that the closure of the nation’s land borders was partly an attempt to control the smuggling of weapons and drugs. Gunmen kill Ondo Monarch

Suspected kidnappers have killed a first-class traditional ruler in Ondo State, the Oluifon of Ifon in Ose Local Government Area, Oba Israel Adeusi. According to reports, Oba Adeusi was  shot about 5:50pm near Elegbeka village along the Benin-Akure highway while returning to his community after a meeting in Akure. Sources said he was confirmed dead at a private hospital where he was rushed to. It was gathered that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu canceled all his official engagements when he heard of the killing. The kidnappers were said to have also abducted two persons at the same spot. Police spokesman, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, who confirmed the killing, said all police divisions within the Ondo North axis have been mobilised to arrest the perpetrators.

BREAKING: Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Against Bayelsa Governor, Deputy

A seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Wednesday affirmed Douye Diri as the duly elected governor of Bayelsa State. In a unanimous judgement by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, the apex court dismissed the six appeals filed against the governor and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. Justice Ngwuta, in his judgement, predicated the dismissal of the appeals on the withdrawal of the six appeals by lawyers of the appellants. The appeals dismissed were filed by the Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party and Labour Movement, according to a report by Channels Television which was monitored by AfricanNewsToday. Obaseki, Shuaibu Inaugurated For Second Term

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, were on Thursday inaugurated for a second term in office. The ceremony was held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital. The Oath of Office was administered by Chief Judge of the state, Justice Esther Edigin. Dignitaries in attendance include governors of the Peoples Democratic Party like Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; among others. The police in Lagos said on Thursday said it would not entertain any demonstration or protest anywhere in the state. The warning came as some groups are hatching plans to begin “the mother of all protest” across the country to drive home their demands against police brutality, bad governance and insecurity. The World Trade Organisation on Friday postponed a meeting where members are expected to pick a new Director-General. The postponement is coming days after the United States declined to support the favored candidate, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Oyetola Declares 24-hour Curfew in Osun

Osun State governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state. The Governor who made the announcement in a statewide broadcast on Saturday said the curfew was necessitated by the unrest in the state caused by hoodlums. Oyetola said the curfew, which takes immediate effect, is indefinite.
