Traditional Worshippers Decry Open Display Of Alaafin’s Dead Body

Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III Traditional worshippers have decried the open display of the body of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, during the Muslim prayer session, which they said, was against the tenets of traditional respect for a deceased king. They also urged Yoruba monarchs to promote traditional religion, which is the basis of their crowns. The 21st Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has reversed an age long curse his grandfather, Olu Erejuwa II, placed on Nigeria as a result of an alleged injustice he experienced. Erejuwa II was the paramount leader of the Itsekiri who was Olu of Warri from 1951 to 1964 and from 1966 to 1986. He was the 18th Olu of Warri Kingdom with the title Ogiame Erejuwa II. The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has asked the Federal Government not to hand over stolen Benin artefacts to the Edo State government when they are repatriated. The German government had said it would return the 1,130 looted Benin bronze to Nigeria in 2022. The Benin kingdom was in 1897 invaded by British soldiers, in what is now referred to as the Benin invasion of 1897, carting away thousands of bronze while several other cultural artefacts were destroyed. Ethnic Groups in Taraba task Ishaku to Address Injustices

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has been issued a 30-day ultimatum by four aggrieved ethnic groups in the state to address lingering injustices meted out to them by successive administrations. In a joint world press conference in Jalingo on Saturday, the ethnic groups comprising of the Minute, Fulani, Kuteb and Tiv claimed that successive administrations in the state have subjected them to injustices. Mr Obed Ameh, spokesperson of the group, disclosed that the injustices held sway in chieftancy matters and local government creation.
