UNICAL Investigates Student’s Death At Health Centre

Prof Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has asked the Medical Board of the varsity to urgently carry out a careful investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of a student. The deceased, identified as Miss Precious Agini, was a third-year student of the Department of Library and Information Science, who died on Saturday, January 28 at the varsity’s Medical Centre. The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the institution’s registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe. INEC Announces Extension Of PVC Collection Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced an extension of the deadline for the collection of permanent voter cards, PVCs. This marks the second time the electoral umpire will extend the deadline for PVC collection. The collection was scheduled to stop on January 29. According to the national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, the decision was reached after a meeting on Saturday.   INEC said that the new deadline for PVC collection is February 5. 2023 Election: Suspend Academic Activities In All Tertiary Institutions – Reps Tells FG

The house of representatives has asked for the suspension of academic activities ahead of the elections. The lower legislative chamber asked the regulatory bodies of tertiary institutions, the National Universities Commission, NUC, National Board for Technical Education, NABTEB, National Commission for Colleges of Education, NNCE, and the ministry of education to shutdown tertiary institutions to allow students travel to the areas where their polling units are located. Gbenga, the husband of slain Lagos lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, on Thursday, at the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island, recounted how his wife struggled to survive as three hospitals refused to attend to her. The late lawyer was shot to death on Christmas Day by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi. NAHCO Workers Suspend Strike After Commencement of Negotiation

The Nigerian Aviation Handling Handing Company Plc, NAHCO, staff members have announced a suspension of their strike embarked on in the quest to demand salary increases. The aviation workers, under the umbrella of the national union of air transport employees, NUATE, and air transport services senior staff association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, said the management of NAHCO had begun negotiations with its workers.
