Police Rescue Italian Catholic Priest Abducted In Edo, Kill 3 Suspects

An Italian Catholic Priest, Fr. Luigi Brena, who was kidnapped along Ogunwenyi, Usen community in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State has been rescued by the police. This was confirmed by Jennifer Iwegbu, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command. Iwegbu said men of the Nigerian police killed three of the suspects after the clergy was abducted on Sunday in the evening.   There have been cases of kidnapping of clergymen in Edo and across Nigeria. Recall that gunmen recently abducted two Catholic priests along the Benin-Auchi Expressway. Kidnapped Rivers NTA Reporter Regains Freedom

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the release of Mrs. Chidiebere Onyia, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Woji, Rivers State last Tuesday, by her kidnappers. Onyia, a nursing mother and an employee of the Nigeria Television Authority, Port Harcourt Zonal office, spent five days in captivity. The kidnappers had blocked her vehicle and taken her away, leaving her colleagues who were with her behind. US Forces Rescue Kidnapped American in Nigeria

US military forces has rescued an American citizen in Nigeria, the Pentagon stated on Saturday, days after he was kidnapped by gunmen in the south of neighbouring Niger and apparently taken across the border. The hostage, Philip Walton, was kidnapped on Monday night at Massalata, a village about 10 kilometres (six miles) from the border with Nigeria.
