AfDB Election: Adesina Re-Elected as President

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina has been re-elected for a second tenure. He was re-elected by the Board of Governors of the Bank at the ongoing AfDB’s virtual annual meeting in Abuja on Thursday. It was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Media, Lauretta Onochie on Twitter. Onochie wrote, “Our very own Akinwumi Akin Adesina has been reaffirmed as the President of the African Development Bank. “Thank you to our supportive President @MBuhari who mobilized support for our own Adesina and why not! Adesina has been proven to be above boards.” Recall that Adesina was recently cleared of misconduct by an Independent Review Committee set up to probe his administration after a complaint by the United States.

A third of Africa’s Children Missed Virtual Learning, says UNICEF

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has said the COVID-19 induced school closure has created a global education emergency occasioned by the inability of a third of children to access virtual leaning. UNICEF said about 1.5 billion children could not access learning at the peak of lockdowns intended to ameliorate the spread of coronavirus. Uwaila Rape: Police Parade Suspected Killers of UNIBEN Student in a Church

The police in Edo State on Wednesday paraded six suspects believed to have executed the killing of 100 level Microbiology student of the University of Benin, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa. Most Vulnerable Nigerians Exempted from Tariff Increase, says NERC

The federal government has exempted poor and vulnerable Nigerians from the increased electricity tariff. This was disclosed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), in a tweet on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday. The tweet signed by James Momoh, Chairman of NERC, said the new tariff will exclude vulnerable customers consuming 50KW or less. The clarification comes after President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the implementation of the proposed electricity tariff hike but the commission has been quick to add that residential poor households will not be affected. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has declared chloroquine as potent for the prevention of coronavirus. This was disclosed by its Director General, Christianah Mojisola Adeyeye who during an interview with reporters said the agency has realised that chloroquine can be used in the early stage of the coronavirus infection as preventive treatment.
