2023Elections: Kebbi Governor Loses Senate Seat To PDP Candidate

Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State has been defeated in the Kebbi central senatorial district election by Adamu Aliero, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abbas Yusuf-Bazata, declared the result on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, the capital.   According to Yusuf-Bazata, Aliero, a former governor of the state clinched the seat by polling 126,588 votes to defeat Bagudu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 92,389 votes. Yusuf-Bazata said Abubakar Bello-Tilli of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, got 1,874 votes, while Umar Rufa’I of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP scored 992 votes. Rights Violators Can’t Get Asylum, UK Tells IPOB, Others

IPOB The United Kingdom has barred the Indigenous People of Biafra, the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra and other Biafran groups from participating in its asylum programme. The British government noted that IPOB had been proscribed as a terrorist group by the Federal Government and that members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network – have reportedly committed human rights violations. The UK, therefore, said that persons who commit human rights violations must not be granted asylum. Strike: ASUU Wants Minister’s Certificate Withdrawn, Edo Students Protest

ASUU The Academic Staff Union of Universities has written to the University of Jos, demanding a probe and the recall of the doctorate degree of the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba. Also on Wednesday, students from different tertiary institutions in the Edo State protested the lingering ASUU strike in Benin, the state capital. ASUU, which commenced a warning strike on February 14, 2022 has yet to call off the industrial action. Two Bombers Allegedly Killed In Imo Oil Firm Blast

NPF Two persons have been confirmed dead after an explosive device went off at an oil firm in Imo State. The incident happened on Wednesday at Addax Oil Company in Izombe community of Oguta Local Government Area. Less than two weeks ago, an explosion at an illegal refinery site at Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area killed about 150 people. A local source told our correspondent that the two victims of the blast were suspected terrorists, who attempted to bomb the oil company but detonated the bomb which exploded and killed them. The source said that anti-bomb operatives of the state police command had arrived at the scene in a bid to detect any explosive devices planted around the oil firm.
