Wike Reacts to Umahi’s Defection, Says 2023 Ambition Behind Move  

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has claimed that Governor David Umahi’s defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC) was informed by his 2023 political ambitions. This comes after the Ebonyi State governor in a state broadcast on Tuesday said his defection to the ruling party was occasioned by his conviction that the APC cares more about the interest of the South East zone. The Ebonyi state governor said that he was quitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the injustice meted out to the people of the zone despite years of overwhelming support for the party. ASUU Strike: UTAS Integrity Test to Take 8 Weeks – Ngige

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday said that it would not be pressured into zoning its presidential ticket to the South-east zone. The party said it is too early to zone its ticket to any of the six geopolitical zones as the party needs to engage in consultations with relevant stakeholders to arrive at such a decision. Crown FC Player Collapses, Dies During Friendly Match

Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso, Oyo State player, Usman Yusuf died during a friendly match in Abeokuta, Ogun Sate after collapsing on the pitch. Reports say Yusuf lined up for Geteway United FC during the first half against Sliema Wanderers. The death of the player who was claimed to be on trial for Gateway United took place on Sunday afternoon at Muda lawal Stadium, Asero, Abeokuta. Late Yusuf allegedly collapsed during the match, but he was resuscitated after the intervention of the medics. He was taken to the State Hospital afterwards where he reportedly died. Following the confirmed cases of Yellow Fever in Enugu Ezike, Igbo North Local Government Area, LGA, of Enugu state by the state government, there are fears the outbreak might have extended to other towns after reports of unusual deaths in Nsukka, Isi-Uzo and Igbo-Etiti LGAs. This was contained in a statement released on Sunday, signed by the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi. Yellow Fever Death Toll Rises to 20 in Benue State

Following the death of three persons from a disease suspected to be yellow fever, the death toll occasioned by the disease has risen to 20 at Okpeilo-Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State. Andrew Amee, Permanent Secretary of the state's Ministry of Health had on Tuesday raised the alarm over a “strange illness” that had claimed 17 lives. Speaking in a phone interview on Saturday, the state epidemiologist, Dr Sam Ngishe, said three more deaths had been recorded, bringing the number of deaths to 20 – 19 males and a female – all aged between seven and 40.
