Troops of 82 Division Nigerian Army on Wednesday 23 February 2022 conducted Operations to clear criminal havens, from where members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) operate at Azia, Orsumoghu, Lilu Forest, Mbosi and Uli in Ihiala and Orsu Local Government Areas of Anambra and Imo States respectively. The embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has claimed that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) are behind his travails due to the onslaught launched against them in the South East. Kyari was said to have made this claim when he appeared before a probe panel led by Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) at the Force Headquarters. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has ruled out the possibility of engaging the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Eastern Security Network, ESN ahead of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State. The commission noted that it wouldn’t go out of its way to engage IPOB and ESN that had been outlawed by the Muhammadu Buhari regime. Two soldiers have been killed as troops repelled an attack by Eastern Security Network at Adani community in Uzo-Uwani Council Area of Enugu State. The World Igbo Congress, WIC, has disowned the security outfit tagged Ebubuagu recently announced by the governors of the South-East region. The group communicated their standpoint through its Chairman, Board of Directors, Prof. Anthony Ejiofor, and the executive members of WIC, Guardian reports.
