Gunmen Abduct Eight People In Ekiti, Demand ₦50 Million Ransom

Eight people were allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday at Itapaji Ekiti, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State. This is coming a week after four persons were kidnapped in Ayebode-Ekiti, in the same local government. Police Confirm Killing of DSS Official by Soldiers in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the killing of an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) by three soldiers. The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Sunday Abutu, described the killing as unfortunate and mindless. Abutu said the gory incident occurred on Friday evening at a hotel located on NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital during an argument that ensued between some soldiers and a DSS official, leading to the death of the latter. He noted that the Command had begun investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that the deceased’s corpse had been deposited in the morgue. Ekiti State Government has said efforts are on to procure sophisticated drones as part of efforts to boost surveillance, expose criminal hideouts and combat insecurity. Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Mr. Femi Ajayi disclosed this at the weekend during the breakdown of the 2021 Appropriation Law with a budgetary provision of N109.666 billion. He said the government projected N550 million to purchase the drones as part of plans to tackle armed robbery, banditry and kidnapping. Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has disclosed that his government, in collaboration with security agencies, are on top of the worsening insecurity challenges facing the state. He said security agencies, including the Ekiti State Security Network, otherwise called Amotekun, would leave no stone unturned until peace was achieved across the state. Commercial banks in Ikere-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere Council Area of Ekiti State on Tuesday shut down operations following the alleged withdrawal of service by policemen. According to a report by The Nation, financial institutions as well as Point of Terminal(POS) outlets were under lock and key due to fear of being attacked over alleged absence of policemen.
