Eight Students Travelling Home For Election Die in Auto Crash

Eight students of Madonna University in Rivers State have been burnt to death in a road mishap, reports say. The incident took place along the Trans-Saharan road in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Saturday while the students were travelling to Taraba State. According to TheCable, the undergraduates were travelling home after the school went on a break to permit students to vote in the forthcoming elections. Their bus allegedly caught fire and got burnt beyond recognition, leaving eight dead and 10 other passengers seriously injured. Court Declares Ebube Agu Operations Illegal In Ebonyi

An Ebonyi State federal high court in Abakaliki has declared the activities of the south-east security outfit, Ebube Agu, illegal in the state. Recall that the south-east states governors had in April 2021, announced the establishment of the security network as part of measures to curb insecurity in the region. The court while ruling on Tuesday, ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, and police to retrieve all the weapons in the possession of Ebube Agu operatives in the state. The presiding judge, Riman Fatun, said the grounds for disbandment were connected to human right abuses, extortion, and illegal arrests. Dave Umahi Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has said that his administration will conclude its tenure on May 29, 2023, irrespective of its challenges. Umahi said this on Friday while reacting to the judgment of the Appeal Court sitting in Enugu which affirmed the judgment of the Ebonyi High court on his defection. Ebonyi State governor, David Nweze Umahi has declared 24-hour curfew in the state to mitigate the spate of violence in the state. The curfew comes after thugs on Wednesday set ablaze two police stations in Abakaliki. Irate youths burnt the Kpiripiri and Ekeaba Police Stations after setting free cell inmates.
