Sunday Igboho Released From Benin Prison

Popular activist, Sunday Igboho has been released. According to Maxwell Adeleye, a spokesman for Igboho, the Yoruba separatist has been set free from the custody of Benin Republic authorities. In a statement on Facebook on Monday morning, Adeleye wrote: "Yoruba Nation Activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Ighoho, has been released by the Government of Republic of Benin." "The Activist was released on Monday to a Yoruba Leader and Leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye and a French Language Expert/ Deputy Alana of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Wale Adeniran." Republic of Benin Legalises Abortion

The Republic of Benin parliamentarians have voted to legalise abortion and authorised the process under very restricted conditions. The law was passed after a heated debate in the parliament, with some legislators strongly opposed to legalising abortion before the amendment finally passed. Justice Ladiean Akintola of Oyo High Court has granted an ex-parte motion restraining the Department of State Security (DSS) and Attorney General of the Federation from arresting, intimidating, harassing, and blocking bank accounts of Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho. Days after the arrest of embattled Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou Benin Republic, the legal battle which would determine his release, will be decided on Monday. JUST IN: Igboho Remanded, Wife Released as Beninese Court Adjourns Hearing

Embattled Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has been remanded at Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou till Monday July 26. But Ropo, his wife, a German citizen, was released and the judge ordered return of her passport. Igboho, was arraigned before the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou on immigration-related offences by the government of the Benin Republic. The Nation reports Igboho and his wife have been in custody since their arrest at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou as they attempted to board a flight to Germany on Monday. They were interrogated by Beninese security operatives at the Brigade Criminelle facility between Wednesday and Thursday.

Super Eagles were forced to train in darkness at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo on Friday ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic. According to a report by Completesports, the stadium officials put off the light at the ground for the entire duration of the team’s training session.
