Bandits Burn Catholic Priest To Death In Niger

Suspected bandits have killed a Catholic Priest of St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church identified as Isaac Achi, in Kafin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area, LGA, of Niger State. The priest was torched to death at his residence in the early house of Sunday. The attack was confirmed by the Niger State police command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, noting that the bandits burnt the building after failing to gain access into the priest’s residence. According to Abiodun, another priest was equally shot while trying to escape from the attackers. Television broadcasting network, Trust TV, has been fined N5 million by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over its broadcast of a documentary titled “Nigeria’s Banditry”. The television network has been fined for broadcasting a documentary showcasing the activities of bandits, the documentary titled “Nigeria’s banditry - the inside story” which aired on the 5th of March, 2022. Terrorists have reportedly kidnaped fifty persons in Kuchi, Munya Local Government Area in Niger State. Some farmers in Katsina State have lamented the negative impact of banditry on farming activities in the state. According to them, bandits have stopped them from going to their farms to cultivate food items. The farmers, in an interview with Daily Trust, stated that bandits stormed their farms to either abduct them, kill them or tax them before they could even cultivate on their farms. They further said every household in the Batsarin-Alhaji area had to pay N500 to the bandits from the last farming season.
