Chris Ngige, minister of labour, says the strike threatened by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will not take place. On Monday, ASUU issued a three-week ultimatum to the federal government to implement the earlier agreement reached with the union. Speaking on Tuesday in an interview on Channels Television, Ngige said funds are available for universities. “The strike will not happen. For one, I know that the funds to pay are there and the ministry of education has assured me that by tomorrow, they will emanate letters to make sure that the disbursement reaches the accounts of the various universities,” he said. “We are not paying the unions directly, so it will get to the universities’ accounts.” ‘STANDARD OF EDUCATION IS FALLING‘ Speaking during the programme, ...

I Didn’t Do My Research Before Joining Bolton Wanderers From PSG – Okocha

Nigeria legend, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, has insisted that he didn’t do his research before joining Bolton Wanderers from Paris Saint-Germain in 2002. Okocha shocked many football fans when he left French Ligue 1 giants PSG for Bolton in the Premier League nineteen years ago. Though PSG was not a top club then when Okocha left, it was still a surprise to see the former Super Eagles captain leave for Bolton, who were battling relegation in the Premier League then. But Okocha has now revealed he did not know Bolton’s status in the Premier League before signing, adding that it took him a lot of time before he settled in the club. “Well, I will say that it’s obvious I didn’t do my research before signing for Bolton,” Okocha told Ally McCoist and Gabriel Agbonlahor on their Talksport ...

NYSC Kicks Over Feeding Allowance For Corps Members As Prisoners Get N1000

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on the federal government to increase its feeding allowance for corps members. Shuaibu Ibrahim, NYSC’s director-general (DG), spoke when he appeared before a house of representatives committee on youth development on Wednesday. Ibrahim said the extant N650 daily feeding allowance for corps members is “grossly inadequate,” adding that with the arrangement, they only get a meal worth N216. The NYSC DG called on the committee to raise the scheme’s feeding allocation in the 2022 budget. Ibrahim argued that the scheme’s budget can’t remain the same when inmates in facilities of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) get N1,000 daily feeding allowance. In October, the senate committee on interior had increased the daily feeding a...

Buba Marwa Gives Them Bloody Nose By Femi Adesina

My first intervention some months back on the war against hard drugs use in the country was under the headline ‘Buba Marwa and the Bad Guys.’ And here I come again today, armed with facts on how the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has suddenly come alive under its Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, and is giving a bloody nose to traffickers, peddlers and users of narcotic substances in the country. On Thursday last week, Gen. Marwa was our guest at the weekly State House Press Briefing. And what an illuminating session it was. He unfolded in graphic details, with video evidences, what has been going on in the drug war. He described 2021 as a year, “which in the annals of NDLEA is epochal, defined by the renewed war against abuse and trafficking of ...

MASSOB Expresses Worry Over Fighter Planes

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra says it fears the Federal Government will deploy the Tucano planes acquired from the United States to attack Igbo youths agitating to secede from Nigeria. It said the worry of its members was triggered by the killings and burning of houses in Igbo communities by the personnel of the Nigerian Army in Imo State in the name of reprisals. The spokesperson for MASSOB, Samuel Edeson, told one of our correspondents in a telephone interview that many innocent Igbo youths had been killed by security agents. PSG Ready To Bring Osimhen Back To France

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are considering making a move to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, according to Calciomercato. It is being reported that the Ligue 1 club could offer Mauro Icardi in a cash plus swap deal for the Nigerian striker. PSG are looking to offload Icardi, who is unsettled due to his marital problems with his wife and agent Wanda-Nara. And they believe Osimhen, who has played in France with Lille, is the perfect replacement. Osimhen has begun this season in fine form, after struggling to settle into Serie A football last year. Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille for 81.3m euros in 2020 and although he scored 10 goals in 24 league games in his debut campaign, more was expected from him. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has said young Nigerians need to get involved in politics in order to make a change in the nation. Osinbajo said the only way Nigeria can be transformed is largely dependent on the actions and decisions of those who occupy public offices hence the reason young people in Nigeria must get involved in politics. The Vice President said this on Wednesday at a virtual forum where he interacted with Nigerian Fellows of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. According to the VP, “You need to go the extra length if you are not already involved, get involved in politics while a lot can be achieved in civil society, the government still holds the ace in terms of capacity and resources to bring social goods to the largest numbers.” Recal...
