Seven Men Remanded by Court for Gang-raping Minor to Death

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ebute Meta Lagos, on Friday, ordered seven men who allegedly gang-raped a minor to death, be remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre. The police charged Ajom Tabi, 37; Omobolanle Olowookere, 41; Aliu Bilyamin, 24; Emmanuel Okon, 24; Bolarinwa Olamilekan, 24; Badmus Abdulateef, 20; Azeez Quadri, 22; and Sunday Odunayo, 22 with three counts of rape, murder and defilement. Chief Magistrate O.G. Oghre did not take the plea of the suspects pending legal advice. The magistrate admitted the second suspect Olowookere to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties each in like sum after her counsel, Spurgeon Ataene, told the court of her non- involvement in the case. Breaking: Violence Erupts in Abakaliki

Abakaliki, the state capital of Ebonyi State has once again erupted in violence as gunshots rent the air in major parts of the city. The violence which began around 3pm caused panic in the city as residents scampered for safety. It was unclear where the gunshots were coming from or who was firing but reports circulating online said the Central Police Station Onuebonyi has been set ablaze by suspected hoodlums. Scores of Children Killed as Gunmen Invade School in Cameroon

At least six children have been killed and eight injured in Cameroon on Saturday as gunmen invaded a school, shooting recklessly in an area where separatist insurgents have been on rampage. Reuters reports that the gunmen arrived the school with motorcycles around midday in the city of Kumba in South West Region. Lagos State Government has set up a panel of enquiry for victims of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) related abuses and Lekki Toll Gate incident. According to a press statement released by the Secretary, Lagos SARS Panel, Mr. Babajide Boys, members of the public are to submit memoranda at the public sitting of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution set up by the state government. According to Babajide, the new venue for the sitting is ‘Lagos Court of Arbitration, 1A Remi Oluwole St. 2 Roundabout, Lekki Expressway, Lekki Phase 1, Estate, Lagos. “Days of sitting include Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and the time of sitting is 10am – 4pm.” Memoranda submission can be done at the venue to the Registrar or through the email judicialpanelonsars @lagosstate.gov.ng.
