Reflections From A Wreath Laying Ceremony – Femi Adesina

There’s no year I attend the Wreath Laying Ceremony marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration that I don’t shed a tear or two. Secret tears. Yes, secret, as men don’t want to be seen giving way to emotions in public. But why not? Charles Dickens wrote: “Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of the earth, overlying our hard hearts.” So brothers, when you need to shed a tear or two, do it. When rainfall needs to come from your eyes, let it come, let the rain of blessings fall, as they are “rain upon the blinding dust of the earth, overlying our hard hearts.” Why do I usually give way to emotions at the wreath laying ceremony, as it also happened last Friday, at the event commemorating the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance...

Insecurity Deserves More Attention Than COVID-19 – Bafarawa

Dalhatu Bafarawa, erstwhile Governor of Sokoto State has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to channel the proposed N400bn for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines to tackle the deteriorating insecurity in the country. Bafarawa asked the Buhari administration to show more concern on insecurity than the pandemic that had led to the death of 2,000 people. The former governor in a statement issued on Wednesday said northerners and indeed all Nigerians are not happy with the security situation in the country. He said, "The government appears to have abandoned the situation and channelled all its effort to a pandemic that has taken barely 2000 lives in the country. "When I see that things are not going well, I cannot keep quiet. If I keep quiet, other parts of the country would accuse...

Presidency Berates Gov Akeredolu Over Ultimatum to Herdsmen

The Presidency has faulted the seven-day ultimatum issued to herdsmen by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, to vacate forest reserve, urging him not to act outside the constitution of the country. The governor had in a statement on Monday issued herdsmen seven days to leave all forest reserves in the state due to high spate of kidnapping in the state. Akeredolu banned the movement of cattle within cities and highways, as well as night grazing. He had said, "Today, we have taken major steps at addressing the root cause of kidnapping, in particular, and other nefarious activities detailed and documented in security reports, the press, and debriefings from victims of kidnap cases in Ondo State. The Decent For The Indecent, The Just For The Unjust – Femi Adesina

There’s a short video you can find online that brings tears to my eyes. It features soldiers of the Nigerian Army, four spry young men, the type of whom the Good Book says “the glory of young men is their strength,” and they are in a desert-like environment, in front of a rigged camp. Wearing battle fatigues and slinging guns round their shoulders, they are in an expansive mood, parodying a popular Christian praise song to reflect their situation and that of the country. “We are always gathered rugged every season, We are always good to go in this fight o We are always confronting every battle We are moving forward to end this fight “We are soldiers, say we have peace We have patience, say we are rugged We are all in armed forces Nigerian Army, Navy Air Force ...

Yoruba Media Sabotaged EndSARS Protest Because of Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition – Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, has blamed the failure of the 2020 EndSARS protests to produce a resolution on the alleged presidential ambition of the All Progressive Congress national leader, Bola Tinubu, in 2023. He said this in a special live broadcast on Sunday, Sahara Reporters reports. Kanu accused the Yoruba media of dousing the EndSARS protest to prevent Nigeria from collapsing so as to secure Tinubu’s 2023 presidential ambition. He noted that the Fulani was on a mission to divide southern Nigeria, to prevent them from being united in purpose. He said, "The Yoruba are trying to protect their interests because they know, by 2023, there is every likelihood that they may rig Tinubu into office. "I remember EndSARS very well.  When you come ...

Nigeria’s Sovereignty is in the Hands of Murdering Herdsmen – Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof.  Wole Soyinka has berated President Muhammadu Buhari’s stance that Nigeria’s sovereignty cannot be challenged, alleging that the country’s sovereignty has been taken over by rampaging herdsmen, Boko Haram and other elements with absolutely no respect for national integrity. Soyinka advocated for national mobilization as a solution to curb the menace of insecurity that the country is facing. He said President Buhari could not tackle the insecurity challenge in the country while sitting down in Aso Rock. Soyinka disclosed this on Saturday when he appeared on an Arise TV programme. He said, “I am very glad that the northern elite are now speaking up, boldly and practically, (and are also) now taking measures which they should have taken years ago. They’ve mov...
