Makinde Deploys 200 Amotekun Men in Ibarapa

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday released a security strategy to be adopted in fighting insecurity and other security challenges facing Ibarapa zone. The strategies, according to the governor, were arrived at after a meeting with security stakeholders, including representatives from Igangan, Ibarapa land and Police Commissioner Ngozi Onadeko. Makinde, who made the disclosure on his social media handle, said the strategies include deployment of additional operatives of the Amotekun Corps; continuous dialogue; documentation of foreigners, enforcement of existing laws and collaboration with federal security agencies, among others. Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that it would be dangerous, reckless and counterproductive for the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to arrest Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, who issued a quit notice to Fulani herdsmen in Oyo State. IGP Orders Arrest of Sunday Igboho

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, over an eviction order on Fulanis in Oyo State. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed this in an interview with BBC Hausa. He told BBC Hausa the IGP told him on the phone order had been given to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest Igboho immediately and transfer him to Abuja. Akeredolu Orders Massive Amotekun Recruitment

Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has ordered massive recruitment into the State Security Network known as the Amotekun Corps in its second batch recruitment exercise. Akeredolu was the first to launch the Amotekun Corps last year in the South West region to help tackle criminal elements in the state. Categories of officers to be recruitment included regular officers, intelligence Corps and volunteers. Commander of the Corps, Chief Tunji Adeleye, in a statement said interested applicants must be between 20 and 70 years. The Amotekun Corps had helped to stem the tide of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

The Presidency has faulted the seven-day ultimatum issued to herdsmen by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, to vacate forest reserve, urging him not to act outside the constitution of the country. The House of Representatives has frowned at the decision of the Federal Government to allow schools to resume on Monday despite a spike in cases of COVID-19. Despite the rising cases of COVID-19 across the country, the Federal Government has once again ignored the recommendation by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led Economic Sustainability Committee and approved the re-opening of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, orientation camps nationwide next Tuesday. The committee had in June 2020 report recommended that while the NYSC programme could go ahead, the three-week orientation camp should be suspended for two years.
