Police Calls on Lagosians to Ignore Calls for Fresh Protest at Lekki Toll Gate

Lagos state government and the Police on Thursday urged the people of state to shun calls for fresh protest slated for tomorrow at the Lekki Toll Gate. They said the fact that two groups scheduled protests for Lekki Toll Gate would cause confrontation, pandemonium, public disorder and wanton destruction of property. We’ll Clampdown on People With Fake COVID-19 Certificates – Lagos Health Commissioner

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi has stated that the Ministry has observed that people have begun to have access to fake Covid-19 certificates, promising to clampdown on such people. He gave this warning at an ongoing press briefing at the Ministry of Health in Lagos on Monday. “We suspect people are gaining access to fake certificates and we will clampdown on them as this is a very dangerous trend.” Abayomi also added that Lagos residents who have tested positive have been observed to give fake contacts and phone numbers at the isolation facilities, making contact tracing difficult.

BREAKING: Gridlock as Fuel Tanker Bursts into Flames on Otedola Bridge

There is heavy traffic at the Berger-Alausa-Magodo axis of Lagos State after a fuel tanker burst into flames on Otedola bridge, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Saturday. Reports in the media have it that the incident happened a few minutes to 6pm. The incident caused panic on the expressway as many vehicles made U-turn in a bid to avoid being engulfed by the fire. Some passengers were also seen alighting from vehicles hurriedly. Many passengers were also stranded at the Alausa Secretariat and toll gate bus stops. As of the time of filling this report, details of the fire incident are sketchy.

BREAKING: COVID-19 Second Wave: Sanwo-Olu Shuts Down Schools Until Further Notice

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed that all public and private schools in the state be shut down until further notice. The governor disclosed this in a statement on Friday. He also directed all public servants from Grade Level 14 and below, except emergency workers and first responders, to work from home for the next 14 days starting from Monday next week – in the first instance. Sanwo-Olu also stressed that concerts, carnivals and street parties were banned in Lagos until further notice. Lai Mohammed Chides CNN Over Clarification of its #EndSARS Tweet

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture has reprobated Cable News Network, CNN, for backtracking on its earlier reports on the shootings at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State by clarifying tweets posted on its official Twitter handle. CNN on Thursday admitted it misreported the death toll at the Lekki incidence, noting that tweet on October 23 did not emphatically state that the death toll was from protest across the country. Brigadier General Ahmed Taiwo, Commander of 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos, which was the Army unit deployed to the Lekki Tollgate area on the night of October 20, has admitted that the officers went to the scene with Live and blank bullet. He said that the Phase four of military internal security operation which the Army deployed involved soldiers taking live ammunition to the scene for self defence. The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) has unveiled a N5 billion Lagos Economic Acceleration Programme (LEAP), a post-COVID-19 recovery programme for micro, small and medium enterprises. The launching, tagged: “From Pandemic to Prosperity”, was held in Ikeja, Lagos. LSETF Executive Secretary Mrs. Tejumola Abisoye said the intervention would provide access to affordable finance at single-digit interest to MSMEs, thereby saving existing businesses, jobs and also creating new job opportunities.
