Jailbreak in Warri Prison as Inmates Escape amidst Shooting and Fire Outbreak

A yet-t0-be known number of prisoners have escaped the Nigerian Correctional Centre, commonly referred to as Okere Prison in Warri South council area of Delta State, amidst heavy shooting by security operatives. Flames and thick smoke are also emanating from the premises, fuelling fear among residents, most of whom have locked shops and scampered for safety. The cause of the fire is not clear, but confirmed reports claim that the thick smoke coming out of the premises of the correctional centre is as a result of the burning of tyres. No Jailbreak in Ikoyi Prisons, fire Contained – Officials

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Lagos has stated that the fire that broke out in a part of the Ikoyi Correctional Centre has been controlled. The service also dismissed fears there was a jailbreak in the facility, insisting that the fire only affected a part of the centre and did not involve inmates. Spokesman for the service in Lagos, Rotimi Oladokun said there was no cause for alarm, adding that a statement would be issued soon. He said: “There was fire on a part of the correctional centre but it has been contained. It did not affect the inmates in any way. There is no jail break and all is fine. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has condemned the decision by government to deploy soldiers to stop protests at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos. #ENDSARS: Thugs Raze Ondo PDP Secretariat

The Ondo State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been set ablaze by thugs in the state capital, Akure. This development is coming some hours after the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress was also razed. The APC had earlier blamed the PDP for the attack on its secretariat while the PDP was yet to respond before the hoodlums attacked. Two vehicles parked within the premises of the Ondo PDP secretariat were razed. Most public and private schools in Oyo state have suspended academic activities as at Tuesday morning, African News Today observed. Although there has not been any official by the State Government over the closing of schools, most private schools said the decision was taken as a result of the hardship students experienced by students due to the #EndSARS protest in major parts of the state on Monday.   Some suspected thugs on Monday morning broke into the Benin Prison popularly known as White House on Sapele road, Benin and freed inmates. The thugs broke parts of the wall, climbing the high fence into the prison to free the inmates. The thugs were reported to have overpowered officials of the prison who confronted them in heavy gunshots.   MultiChoice claims that reports on social media that its entertainment platforms – DStv and GOtv- have been hacked were untrue. A representative of the company who pleaded anonymity told The PUNCH on Sunday. African News Today gathered that the Pay-TV company had earlier informed its subscribers via text messages of an imminent system upgrade. The company told its subscribers that its services would be offline as it would be upgrading its system from 11pm on October 17 to 4pm on October 19, 2020.
