Student Union Leader Killed by Gunmen in Kaduna

A  student union leader in one of the institutions in Kaduna, Comrade Auwal Rabiu, has been confirmed killed, as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked motorists on the road linking the Kaduna international airport and the Rigasa station of the Kaduna-Abuja train. The gunmen also injured one Umar Bn El-Khatab while one other person identified as Sani Digana is feared to have been abducted during the attack. ASUU Commences Consultation with Members

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has started consultations with all of its members to confirm the status of the industrial action. According to The Nation, the National President of the union, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi confirmed this in an interview. Ogunyemi said: “We are consulting with our organs. When we have new information we will share it. “We are reporting back to the government on Friday. Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed identity of a security aide attached to his convoy, who shot a vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke on Thursday at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja. Social activist, Eromosele Adene, has finally regained his freedom from unjust detention of the Nigeria Police Force. Adene was arrested by the police on November 7 from his home in Ikeja, Lagos. He was taken to Abuja for interrogation before he was returned to Lagos for trial after 10 days. He was arraigned in court on four count charges of cyber-stalking and activities likely to cause breach of peace. He was granted bail on Tuesday by Magistrate Folarin Williams of the Yaba Magistrate Court. The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) has unveiled a N5 billion Lagos Economic Acceleration Programme (LEAP), a post-COVID-19 recovery programme for micro, small and medium enterprises. The launching, tagged: “From Pandemic to Prosperity”, was held in Ikeja, Lagos. LSETF Executive Secretary Mrs. Tejumola Abisoye said the intervention would provide access to affordable finance at single-digit interest to MSMEs, thereby saving existing businesses, jobs and also creating new job opportunities. Court Orders Maina’s Arrest, Trial in Absentia

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the arrest of the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, adjudged to have jumped bail regarding his trial involving N2bn money laundering charges. Justice Okon Abang made the order in Wednesday’s ruling in which he also revoked the bail earlier granted the fleeing defendant. He ordered all security agencies in the country to arrest Maina “wherever he may be found” and produce him in court, “without delay”. The judge also ordered that the defendant’s trial would proceed in his absence pending when the defendant would be produced in court. BREAKING: Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Against Bayelsa Governor, Deputy

A seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Wednesday affirmed Douye Diri as the duly elected governor of Bayelsa State. In a unanimous judgement by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, the apex court dismissed the six appeals filed against the governor and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. Justice Ngwuta, in his judgement, predicated the dismissal of the appeals on the withdrawal of the six appeals by lawyers of the appellants. The appeals dismissed were filed by the Alliance for Democracy, Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party and Labour Movement, according to a report by Channels Television which was monitored by AfricanNewsToday.
