Contrary to speculations that have been making the rounds, the publicity secretary of the PDP has stated categorically that Nyesom Wike has not been chosen as Atiku’s VP. It is common knowledge that the PDP is looking for a strong Southern candidate who will be able to draw significant votes from the South in the coming elections.
The party’s National Working Committee has the task of looking at suitable candidates and making a recommendation that will be agreed upon by the party and Atiku himself.

Speaking on the issue, Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary said “We have a process as a party, because we are organic. We follow through the processes. We recognize the importance of participatory democracy, ensuring that every stakeholder and organ of the party is involved in our decision-making process.”
He went on to say “This is the beginning of the process, consideration and advisory body need to get to the level where, in consultation with the presidential candidate, they will deliberate on who is most suitable. That process is ongoing, so any report of a particular candidate at this point is probably premature.”
Despite this strong denial from the PDP, every indication suggests that Wike is the most likely candidate for the VP spot. With INEC deadline just about 48 hours away, all the speculations will soon be laid to rest.
