The police in Osun State on Tuesday arraigned an accused person identified as Olayemi Lawrence for alleged attempted abduction of her employer, Eunice Fateye, before a Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Osogbo.
Lawrence, 23, was alleged to have broken into the home of Fateye and carted away with some of her personal items and money.
Abiodun Fagboyibo, Police prosecutor, in his address at the court, said Olayemi in December 2020 in Ilesa-Ijesha, gained entrance into the residence of Fateye and stole mobile phones worth N150,000.
The prosecutor also claimed that the defendant stole an ATM card belonging to the woman and withdrew a sum of N305,000 from her account.
Fagboyibo further said that after undertaking the act, Olayemi threatened to destroy the house of her boss if she did not send her a sum of N500,000, adding that Olayemi also sent threat messages to her.
According to sections 410 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State 2002, the offences are liable to punishment.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the five counts of attempted kidnapping, attempted arson and burglary.
Magistrate Adebayo Ajala while ruling on the defendant’s bail application directed that the matter be moved to Ibokun since the offences were not committed under her magisterial district.
Ajala remanded the defendant in the Ilesa Custodial Centre and adjourned the matter till January 18, 2021.
