Bandits Release 75 Abducted Zamfara Residents

Seventy-five people kidnapped from Yar Katsina community in Kekun Waje district of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been released by their captors. The freed residents were abducted in two major attacks on the community in the past two months. The armed criminals had earlier kidnapped 61 residents, then 36 days later, they raided the community and abducted 15 more people. “The armed men, however, held a six-year-old girl identified as Ummi and told her parents that they had adopted her because they like her. “The parents were not among those kidnapped. “One of them said he had not born any child in his life as such he would adopt the girl. “She has become his daughter as he promised to take good care of her. Father Of Zamfara Speaker Dies In Bandits’ Custody

Father of Zamfara Speaker Alh Muazu Abubakar Magarya has been confirmed dead in the hands of his captors. In an exclusive interview with the brother of the deceased Malam Dahiru Saraki Magarya who was abducted along with the late Abubakar Magarya confirmed the development to new men at the State Police headquarters Gusau on Sunday. House Of Zamfara Speaker, Others Set Ablaze By Bandits

Bandits have set the home of the Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya, and other residents ablaze in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Chairman of the Committee on Security and Prosecution of Bandits in Zamfara State, Abdullahi Shinkafi, confirmed the incident on Monday. He said the bandits invaded the community and set ablaze some houses including that of the speaker. According to him, this was coming as a result of the ongoing onslaught by the military in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state. Gunmen Kidnap 15 Students Of Bakura Agriculture College, Zamfara, 4 Killed

Gunmen have abducted some students and teachers at the College of Agriculture and Animal Health in Bakura, Zamfara state. Aliyu Bakura, deputy registrar of the college, confirmed the development to BBC Hausa. “Last Sunday night around 10pm they entered and opened fire and took away 15 students and a teacher and his wife and two children,” he said. Mallam Aliyu said the attackers were very numerous and climbed the wall and spent more than two hours in the school firing. Bandits Shoot Zamfara Lawmaker Dead

A member of the Zamfara House of Assembly, Mohammed Ahmed, has been shot dead by bandits along Sheme- Funtua Road in Katsina State. Announcing his death, the Clerk of the Zamfara House House of Assembly,  Saidu Anka, said Ahmed was traveling to his town when he was killed by the bandits. His funeral prayers would be performed at Sheikh Ahmed Umar Kanoma Mosque by 11 o’clock on Wednesday. Until his death, the deceased was the chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Doctors Suspend Strike in Zamfara

Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its one week strike it embarked on to protest poor remuneration. The Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature, announced the suspension in a statement in Gusau on Tuesday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMA on December 10 directed its members to embark on a one-week strike. “I write to inform the public that the NMA has suspended the one-week strike it embarked upon last Thursday,’’ Bature said. Reckless Drivers in Zamfara to be Sentenced to Death – Matawalle

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamafara State has threatened to reintroduce death penalty for reckless drivers in the state, after the mishap that led to the death of 16 people on Wednesday. A truck had lost control and ran into four vehicles transporting supporters of Matawalle along Gusau/Funtua road. Matawalle disclosed this on Sunday while on condolence visit to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, along with cabinet members and the management of BUA Group. The governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle was summoned to the Presidential villa to brief the presidency on the state of security in his state. Matawalle on Tuesday had a closed-door meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari. He assured the presidency of his administration’s commitment to tackle rising insecurity in the state headlong.
