EFCC Seizes Obiano’s Passport, as Former Anambra Governor Regains Freedom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano after he perfected his bail conditions. The former governor was arrested last week by the anti-corruption agency a few hours after handing over to the current governor, Charles Soludo. He was given administrative bail on Wednesday evening. According to Daily Trust, Obiano’s passport was seized by the EFCC as part of his bail condition. Obiano was arrested last Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos while on his way to the United States of America. Obiano Meets Bail Conditions, May Regain Freedom Today

The former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, may soon regain his freedom from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. A source told The Guardian that the former governor has met the administrative bail conditions given to him by the anti-graft agency. A senior official at the commission told The Guardian that a thorough verification of some of the documents Obiano submitted in fulfilment of the bail terms was being carried out by operatives of the commission. Immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, en route United States of America, has been denied administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to EFCC sources, Obiano is being interrogated and detained over alleged embezzlement of funds during his eight-year tenure as governor. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday moved ex-Governor Willy Obiano from Lagos to Abuja for quizzing over alleged N42 billion fraud. Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja on Thursday night a few hours after he handed over power to Prof. Charles Soludo in Awka, and subsequently lost his immunity from arrest. The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, on Friday, hailed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for arresting former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos. Obiano was reportedly on his way out of the country to Houston, Texas in the United States after handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday inaugurated an ultra-modern industrial shoe-making hub equipped with modern technology at Nkwelle Ezunaka Village in Anambra.
