FIFA Congratulates Zambia For Winning First Ever WAFCON Medal Against Falcons

World football governing body, FIFA, has congratulated the Copper Queens of Zambia for claiming a hard-fought win over the Super Falcons of Nigeria to finish third at the WAFCON 2022 in Morocco. The Zambian side claimed the win through an own goal by Chiamaka Nnadozie in the 28th minute of the match. The win meant they claimed their first ever WAFCON medal.    The loss marked the second time the Falcons will claim a fourth-place finish at the competition, the last being in 2012. WAFCON 2022: Super Falcons Lose Third Place Match To Zambia

The Super Falcons of Nigeria lost 0-1 to the Copper Queens of Zambia in the third-place match of the WAFCON 2022 on Friday in Morocco. The Zambian side claimed the Bronze medal courtesy of an own goal by Chiamaka Nnadozie in the first half of the encounter. The medal marked Zambia’s first ever medal. The Falcons had only finished fourth at the WAFCON in the 2012 edition. Zambia got their goal in the 29 minutes when Evarine Katongo’s long range shot came off Nnadozie after it initially hit the post and deflected into the net. Asisat Oshoala, Super Falcons of Nigeria striker has won a record fifth female Player of the Year at the CAF awards held in Morocco on Thursday. Sadio Mane of Senegal also retained his award as the best male player of the year after helping Senegal to win the African Cup of Nations and his exploits with his former club, Liverpool of England. He last won the award in the 2019 edition, which was the last time the award event was organised. WAFCON 2022: Waldrum Assures of Victory Against Zambia Despite Depleted Squad

Coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Randy Waldrum, has assured that his team will be equal to the task in their third-place match against Zambia in the ongoing WAFCON 2022 on Friday. The Falcons who missed out on their quest to win a tenth African Women’s Cup of Nations after losing narrowly to hosts, Morocco will take on Zambia at the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca aiming to secure a third-place finish.
