Disu Takes Over From Kyari at IRT

Inspector General of Police (IG) Alkali Baba Usman has appointed Mr. Tunji Disu, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), as the new head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT). Disu’s posting, the IG said, is on the heels of management’s decision to fill the leadership gap within the IRT and refocus the Unit for better service delivery. The appointment followed the suspension of Mr. Abba Kyari, (also a DCP) on the orders of the Police Service Commission (PSC). Police Repel Another Attack in Imo, Kill Two Bandits

The Imo Police command says its operatives had killed two bandits during crossfire in Njaba Local Government Area on Saturday. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Abutu Yaro, confirmed this in a statement signed by the command’s Spokesman, CSP Mike Abattam, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri. Mrs. Ann Unenge, wife of Benue Commissioner for Lands and Survey has been abducted in Makurdi Benue state capital . The incident, which is the second in Makurdi, took place less than one week after two women were abducted in a similar fashion. She was kidnapped around 6:pm on Thursday. Seven Navy Operatives Abducted in Edo

Seven officers of the Nigerian Navy have been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Edo State. Reports say the officers were ambushed and abducted along Sapele-Warri road while travelling to Delta State from Kaduna State. The incident was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Kotongs Bello, saying the police were able to rescue five of them from the kidnappers. The PPRO, who was unable to give details of the incident, said the command was working hard to ensure the remaining officers were also rescued unhurt. Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have released pictures of the two soldiers and Yobe Liaison officer they abducted on Damaturu/Maiduguri highway on Saturday. The insurgents also released the identity cards of their abductees. In the display of the ID cards, two of the cards belong to Mai Lalle, one for Mustapha while the other belongs to Lpcl Oyediran Adedotun of the Nigeria Army. Twenty-eight students out of the 121 students who were abducted from Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna, were freed on Sunday after being held captive for 20 days. The students were abducted when their school was invaded on July 5, 2021, by bandits. The bandits released the students after collecting N50m as ransom, according to Punch. Abia State Government has announced further relaxation of the prevailing curfew in the state. In a special announcement authored by Barrister Chris Ezem, the Secretary to State Government, the state government said this was “following marked improvements in the security situation of the State and surrounding ones,” adding “Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the relaxation and adjustment of subsisting curfews across the state.” In Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia, Bende, Umunneochi and Arochukwu LGAs, the curfew is now 12 midnight to 6am daily. 100 Zamfara Kidnap Victims Freed Without Ransom, Says Police

The Zamfara police command has said bandits were not paid any ransom to free 100 children, nursing mothers, and others held hostage for 42 days. A statement issued by a spokesperson for the police, Muhammad Shehu in Gusau on Tuesday said the victims were freed at Kabaro forest in Maru local government area.
