Second Wave: Rivers Govt. To Re-impose Lockdown

Governor Nyesom Wike on Sunday disclosed that he will re-impose lockdown from January 2021, following the rising number of new cases of coronavirus in Rivers State. Wike gave the hint during a thanksgiving ceremony held for Mrs. Priscilla Nwanediye Mark on her 90th birthday at the St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government on Sunday. The Governor in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, described as worrisome the refusal of most churches and markets in the State to enforce the compulsory wearing of face mask in adherence to COVID-19 protocol. The Governor said the State government had initially relaxed the restriction on the number of persons who worship in churches, but with the second wave of COVID-19, he will by this week announce new stringent meas...

Nobody Can Rename Any Part of Rivers – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has disclosed that nobody can rename any part of Rivers State. Wike spoke while making reference to the nefarious activities of the disbanded Indigeneous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). The governor spoke on Friday when he received a delegation of Tiv people living in Rivers State under the aegis of Mdzough U. Tiv led by Mr. Caleb Yashi to Government House, Port Harcourt. The leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation worldwide also accompanied the delegation of the TiV people. The governor noted that the Tiv people had not caused any problem for the state government and urged them to continue to live peacefully with people of their host communities. He said: “In this state, you have not made any problem here. We know that the Tiv people...

Nigeria: Wike Snubs Media, Presents N.5 Trillion Budget

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Christmas eve presented the 2019 Appropriation Bill of around half a trillion naira to the state House of Assembly for necessary legislative action without inviting the press for the presentation ceremony. Wike does not seem to be enjoying getting the press closely involved in the activities of his administration. Neither his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu nor Information Commissioner, Emma Okah, enjoys picking calls and responding to text messages from journalists. The cold shoulder the Wike administration has been offering journalists practicing in the state has been a matter of serious concern to the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. Local sources in Port Harcourt, the state capital, say as...

Nigeria: Re-election Seeking Wike Sets Agenda 2068 For Rivers

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is currently busy setting a seeming ambitious 50 years development agenda for the state. It is expected to flower in Year 2068. At the moment, Wike’s continued stay in power beyond 2019 is being challenged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi, his Ikwerre kinsman. Even if Wike wins his re-election bid on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and stay till 2023, his Agenda 2068 will still have outstanding 46 years to fully mature. Apparently not shaken, the PDP governor says the state government will set still out the development blueprint for the rapid growth of the big oil and gas state in the next 50 years. He was speaking while receiving the final report of the state’s Golden...
