Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that he does not need to apologise to anyone for commending President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the payment of funds owed to Niger Delta State since 1999.   Wike stated this during the 2022 Rivers State honours and awards ceremony, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday. Recall that Wike had on November 18, disclosed that the Buhari administration paid his state and other Niger Delta States funds owed them from the 13 percent derivation fund. The governors across the federation under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, have accused the Federal Government of failing in its constitutional mandate to secure citizens which has negatively affected economic activities. The governors said that the spike in poverty level among the citizens was a consequence of the rising insecurity on commercial and agricultural activities. The leadership of the Labour Party, LP, has rubbished the expulsion of Doyin Okupe, the director-general of Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council, over alleged non-financial membership status, political rascality and misappropriation of funds. Aisha Buhari Withdraws Case Against Twitter Critic, Aminu

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has withdrawn the case against Aminu Adamu, a 500-level student of the Federal University, Dutse. The 24-year-old student was arrested by the police in Dutse for allegedly posting a defamatory tweet on his Twitter handle against the First Lady. Adamu, a student of Environmental Management, was alleged to have posted a plump picture of Aisha Buhari with a caption in Hausa, translated to mean, “Mama is feeding fat on poor people’s money.” He tweeted on June 8, 2022. He was arraigned on Tuesday before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, after almost two weeks in detention and alleged manhandling. Court Sentences YPP Guber Candidate To 42 Years Jail Term For Fraud

Bassey Albert, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison by an Akwa Ibom federal high court for fraud.   Albert was arraigned in 2019 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a six-count charge of allegedly taking possession of six vehicles valued at N204 million when he was Akwa Ibom State finance commissioner. He reportedly obtained one of the cars from Jide Omokore, an associate of Diezani Alison Madueke, former minister of petroleum. The Federal Government has accused state governors of being responsible for the increased poverty in Nigeria. The Minister of State for budget and national planning, Clem Agba, blamed the state governors for prioritizing flyovers and airports to improving the living conditions in rural areas. Police Nab Two in Possession Of 468 PVCs

The police have nabbed two individuals in possession of 468 Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs. This was contained in a statement by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, on Sunday. Okoye said one of the suspects identified as Nasiru Idris, was caught with 101 PVCs in Sokoto State and another whose name was not disclosed was found with 367 PVCs in Kano State. The statement said that the act was a breach of Sections 117 and 145 of the Electoral Act 2022. According to the statement, the offenders were presently receiving their due punishment.
