The 24-year-old student was arrested by the police in Dutse for allegedly posting a defamatory tweet on his Twitter handle against the First Lady.

Adamu, a student of Environmental Management, was alleged to have posted a plump picture of Aisha Buhari with a caption in Hausa, translated to mean, “Mama is feeding fat on poor people’s money.”

He tweeted on June 8, 2022. He was arraigned on Tuesday before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, after almost two weeks in detention and alleged manhandling. Adamu pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Suleja, Niger State correctional facility.

However, the First Lady withdrew the case on Friday. Counsel to Mrs Buhari, Fidelis Ogbobe said the First Lady as the mother of the country decided not to pursue the case any further, following the intervention of Nigerians of goodwill.

Relying on Section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, Ogbobe moved the application for the withdrawal of the case.

Justice Yusuf Halilu while ruling on the case lauded the First Lady for taking the bold step to forgive the accused.

He urged parents to always monitor their children and wards to avoid the recurrence of such in the future.
