Nigeria: Samuel Ortom Rescinds Decision, Remains In APC

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has made a U-turn on his decision to leave the ruling party APC. His decision came after he met with the party's new chairman Adams Oshiomole. Speaking on his change of mind, Ortom said "I am here in APC, a member of APC; I’m still flying the flag of APC and I only said I was given a red card." Nigeria: APC’s Fayemi Wins Ekiti Gubernatorial Elections

The keenly contested battle between APC and PDP in the just concluded gubernatorial elections in Ekiti state of Nigeria has been won by the ruling party, APC. For many months before the elections, it was clear that the battle for Ekiti's government house was regarded as a do or die affair by the two leading parties. According to the returning officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, Kayode Fayemi of APC won the election with 197,459 votes while his PDP opponent, Professor Olusola Eleka got 178,121 votes. Of the 16 local government areas, APC won in 13 while PDP won in only 3. With this win, Fayemi returns to Ekiti government house for a second tenure. He had lost to Fayose after his first term which ran from 2010 to 2014.

Security operatives arrested at least five party agents who were sharing monetary incentives at different polling stations in the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti today. Some of them were arrested at Jonathan memorial School, Ajilosun in Ado Ekiti. Two gubernatorial candidates had raised alarm, accusing APC and PDP agents of openly sharing money without any intervention by security operatives. According to Bisi Omoyeni, the candidate for Mega party, people were being openly given money to vote.
