Sanwo-Olu Bans Okada In Four More LGAs, Six LCDAs

The Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration in Lagos State has announced the ban of commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada operation in four additional Local Government Areas, LGAs, and six Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs. Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the commissioner for transportation disclosed this on Thursday, noting that the ban will take effect from 1st September 2022.   Among the affected LGAs are; Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, and Mushin, while the six LCDAs are Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Bariga, Odi-Olowo and Ejigbo. Why ASUU Strike Lingers – FG

The Federal Government has explained that the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to be paid a backlog of salaries spanning the six-month strike duration is delaying its negotiations with the union. The FG insisted that ASUU members will not be paid the backlog of salaries withheld during the strike period. Insecurity: Ondo Govt Offers N50k Reward To Residents

The Governor Rotimi Akeredolu administration has offered a N50,000 reward for any resident who offers useful information that will unmask the identity of kidnappers and other criminal elements in the State. Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, stated this after the weekly State Executive Council meeting at the Governor's Office on Wednesday. She stated that the reward was meant to encourage residents to assist the government in its efforts to rid the State of criminals. Electricity Workers Suspend Strike

The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, has suspended its nationwide strike. The suspension followed an emergency meeting with Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment on Wednesday. Shun Politicians With Children Abroad – ASUU President

Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has called on Nigerian students to shun politicians who enrol their children in universities abroad. Osodeke made the call during a Twitter Space Webinar, organised by Premium Times, tagged, ‘ASUU strike, Revitalisation Fund and the Way Forward.’ Proffering a lasting solution to the incessant strike by the union, Osodeke said students should not vote for politicians who would not stand on the side of the people. A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sam Ohuabunwa, has asked the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign from his position if it will help end the dispute between the party’s presidential candidate and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. Ohuabunwa stated this during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. Strike To Continue As ASUU, FG Meeting Ends In Deadlock

The meeting between the Federal Government and the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday ended in a deadlock as both parties were not able to reach an agreement. ASUU had met with Professor Brigg’s renegotiation committee with a view to finding a solution to the lingering labour dispute which has resulted in the closure of the country’s universities for over six months. The meeting which took place at the National Universities Commission, NUC, headquarters, Abuja, ended without n agreement being reached. Reports say the Prof. Briggs’ committee failed to present new offers on the table, thus prompting the university teachers to stage a walkout.
