2023 Election: Why I Met Peter Obi, Wike, Others – Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has explained why he met with Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, and others.

According to Ortom, his presence at the meeting was informed by his open-minded approach to politics.

He disclosed this on Tuesday while interacting with journalists after he returned from his trip to Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt.

Recall that LP candidate, Obi met with Wike, Ortom, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko.

Among the other notable politicians at the meeting were former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke; and former Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwanbo, among others.

But Ortom has said that he couldn’t turn down a request to attend such meetings.

He explained that he did nothing wrong by attending the meeting with Obi.

He said, “At the end, the solution to the challenges of Nigeria is what matters. Where we are today calls for all hands to be on deck.

“I am free to receive any candidate who comes visiting or seeking audience with me. I cannot say no when such request comes.”
