EFCC Recovers 1.4 Billion Naira Meant for The NHIS

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, reveals that a sum of N1.4 Billion which was meant for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has been recovered. The commission made a statement on its official Twitter page which said the sum was included in the funds that some commercial banks wrongly refused to remit to the Treasury Single Account since 2015. NYSC Signs MoU To Include Corps Members On NHIS Programme

The National Youth Service Corps has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Health Insurance Scheme on the inclusion of Corps Members in the NHIS programme. NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim who stated this when he led a delegation of the management of the Scheme to the Headquarters of the NHIS in Abuja, today commended the Federal Government over its concern for Corps Welfare. House Of Representatives Queries NHIS Over N152 Million Spent On Sanitisers, Face Masks, Others

The House of Representatives’ Committee on Finance has queried the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mohammed Sambo, over how the scheme had been spending its resources, particularly during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. Members of the committee scrutinised the books of the NHIS at an investigative hearing on revenue generation and remittance by ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government on Monday. The lawmakers, who expressed anger, took turns to query several items on the list of expenses provided by the scheme in its written submission to the committee, The Punch reports. Senate Passes Bill on Compulsory Health Insurance for Every Nigerian  

Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe, Chairman, Senate Committee on Health has disclosed that the Senate has passed a bill that makes health insurance compulsory for every Nigerian. He stated this on Thursday in Abuja at the inauguration of Group Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP). He said, “We have passed it in the Senate. Two Committees on health from Senate and the House of Representatives worked on the bill, so the bill is before the House of Representatives just for concurrence. “Also, the National Assembly has passed the National Health Insurance Authority Act.
