NDDC Official Kidnapped by Gunmen in Imo State

Engineer Kingsley Okorafor has been abducted by unknown gunmen near his residence in Umuadara Umulogho Autonomous Community, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo state. The community not far away from a military checkpoint was thrown into panic, when an official of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) went missing in the early hours of Saturday. A family member disclosed that the abductee went to the vigil of the late traditional ruler of Ndihu, Eze innocent Anyawu on Friday night. The late Eze innocent of the Ndihu Autonomous Community in Obowo Local Government Area was to be buried on Saturday. Senate To Include Kogi, Bauchi, Others Among Niger Delta Commission

The Amendment of a bill to include Kogi, Lagos, Anambra, Gombe and others among the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) scaled second reading at the Senate on Wednesday. The bill titled: “A bill for an Act to amend the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Act No 6, 2000 and for other related matters connected therewith, 2021”, was sponsored by Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan representing Lagos West Senatorial district. Olamilekan in his lead debate submitted that the NDDC Act was activated over 21 years ago and since then, oil and gas have been discovered in Lagos, Kogi, Anambra, Gombe, Bauchi and other States, hence, the amendment would offer an opportunity for the Act to capture peculiarities of the new oil states. SERAP Issues Buhari 14-Day Ultimatum To Publish Names of Suspected Looters Of N6Trillion Niger Delta Funds

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to “direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN to widely publish the names of those indicted in the alleged misappropriation of over N6 trillion in the running of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2000 and 2019, as documented in the recent Forensic Audit Report on NDDC”. This was contained in an open letter signed by SERAP's deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare. NDDC to train Niger Delta Youths

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) at the weekend said it would soon begin the training of Niger Delta youths at the Innoson Kiara Academy, a technical and vocational institution affiliated to the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. NDDC Interim Administrator Mr. Efiong Akwa, represented by his Special Adviser on Youths, Udengs Eradiri, spoke after inspecting the facilities at the Innoson factory in Nnewi, Anambra State. NDDC Orders Contractors Back to Site

The Interim Administrator, Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC), Mr. Efiong Akwa, has ordered contractors handling its projects to return to site immediately and complete their work. Akwa gave the order while inspecting  the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital, at Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. A statement signed by the commission’s Director, Corporate Affairs, Ibitoye Abosede,  said Akwa explained that the commission would not go back on the regional hospital project because of its strategic importance. He promised to pay for the milestones already achieved by the contractor to ensure the completion of the project. Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has ordered contractors executing projects of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to immediately cease work in the state, African News Today gathered. Case pending before two courts, letter has not reached me – Nwaoboshi The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has hit back at the Nigerian Senate, asking Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger-Delta, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, to refund N2.5n for contracts his companies failed to deliver. The commission failed to mention the names of the concerned firms in the letter written to the lawmaker. The commission gave Nwaoboshi a two weeks ultimatum to refund the funds to its account. NDDC Defends Collapse of Acting MD, Pondei at Reps Hearing

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has attributed the collapse of its acting Managing Director, Prof. Keme Pondei, to a medical condition which his doctors have warned him against. Charles Odili, Director, Corporate Affairs said in a statement that Pondei went against the warning of his doctors who had warned him against attending the hearing given his medical condition. Odili said that his state of health had degenerated after two weeks of illness prompting the instruction from his doctors.
