We’ll Tell Dangote to Provide Forex to Nigeria at Good Rates – Emefiele

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, has disclosed that the Dangote Refinery will be encouraged to sell foreign exchange earnings to banks at a good rate. Speaking after the 291st Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in Abuja, Emefiele stated that his team would engage with Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the promoter of the refinery, to ensure that Nigerians benefit from the venture. He noted that the CBN, the Federal Government, and the country had helped Dangote set up the refinery, adding that with local refining, the country would save about 20 per cent of the total cost of importing petroleum products, thereby reducing prices in the long run. Boat Mishap: Illegal Operators Cause Rising Death Toll

Over 17 persons have been confirmed dead in the boat mishap that took place at Mile Two in Lagos on Friday night. Around 17 persons were missing when a commercial boat capsized in the Mile Two water canal at 7:45 pm. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed this as of yesterday. NEMA’s coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye said two bodies were recovered on Saturday night. One was a 52-year-old man and the other a 20-year-old lady. Ibrahim further stated that 17 bodies have been retrieved from the Lagos lagoon so far since the boat accident occurred on Friday. Farinloye said: “17 bodies have been recovered so far from the Lagos Lagoon after the boat accident. A source told The Guardian that the former governor has met the administrative bail conditions given to him by the anti-graft agency. EFCC Arrests 33 Internet Fraud Suspects

Operatives of the Lagos and Enugu Zonal Commands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arrested 33 internet fraud suspects in separate sting operation. Seventeen of the suspects were arrested in Lagos while 16 others were nabbed at Enugu. EFCC Denies Obiano Bail, May Get Court Order To Hold Him

Immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, en route United States of America, has been denied administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to EFCC sources, Obiano is being interrogated and detained over alleged embezzlement of funds during his eight-year tenure as governor. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday moved ex-Governor Willy Obiano from Lagos to Abuja for quizzing over alleged N42 billion fraud. Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja on Thursday night a few hours after he handed over power to Prof. Charles Soludo in Awka, and subsequently lost his immunity from arrest. The former governor was said to be on his way to the United States where he was residing before his election eight years ago. He is alleged to have mismanaged his security vote while in office.
