The Police Service Commission, PSC, on Thursday ratified the immediate suspension of ASP Drambi Vandi who is suspected to have shot and killed pregnant Lagos lawyer, Bolanle Raheem. Court Remands Lawyer After Fraud Suspect Jumps Bail

An Ajah Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State has remanded a 42-year-old lawyer, Nzeteh Reagan, in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre for failing to account for the whereabouts of a suspect, Simon Odeh, accused of N16m fraud.   Magistrate O.M. Daramola remanded the lawyer on Wednesday after he was arraigned on a one-count charge of conspiracy, obstruction, and prevention of justice by the police. An Abuja federal high court has turned down an application by the Department of State Services, DSS, seeking to arrest and detain the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele. The chief judge, Justice JT Tsoho, while declining the motion ex parte – filed in the absence of the respondent, said that the secret police lacked concrete evidence to prove its claims that Emefiele was involved in terrorism financing and economic crimes. ‘I Will Die A Hero’ Says Kano Cleric Sentenced To Death For Blasphemy

A cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru-Kabara, has been found guilty of blasphemy by a Kano Upper Shari’a court. He was charged over alleged blasphemous comments against Prophet Muhammad. The charges were brought against him by the government of Kano State. According to prosecution counsel, Suraj Sa’eda, the defendant committed the offence on August 10, October 25 and December 20, 2019. Court Sentences Two To Death By Hanging For Raping UNILORIN Student  

Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court sentenced two students, identified as Abdulazeez Ismail and Ajala Olawatimileyin, to death by hanging for the murder of Blessing Olajide, a 300-level undergraduate of the University of Ilorin. Recall that Olajide was raped and murdered by the duo on June 2, 2021, at her sister’s residence in the Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State. The court also sentenced another student, Oyeyemi Omogbolahan, to life imprisonment. Aisha Buhari Withdraws Case Against Twitter Critic, Aminu

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari has withdrawn the case against Aminu Adamu, a 500-level student of the Federal University, Dutse. The 24-year-old student was arrested by the police in Dutse for allegedly posting a defamatory tweet on his Twitter handle against the First Lady. Adamu, a student of Environmental Management, was alleged to have posted a plump picture of Aisha Buhari with a caption in Hausa, translated to mean, “Mama is feeding fat on poor people’s money.” He tweeted on June 8, 2022. He was arraigned on Tuesday before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, after almost two weeks in detention and alleged manhandling. Court Sentences YPP Guber Candidate To 42 Years Jail Term For Fraud

Bassey Albert, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison by an Akwa Ibom federal high court for fraud.   Albert was arraigned in 2019 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a six-count charge of allegedly taking possession of six vehicles valued at N204 million when he was Akwa Ibom State finance commissioner. He reportedly obtained one of the cars from Jide Omokore, an associate of Diezani Alison Madueke, former minister of petroleum. A Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court on Tuesday remanded a 500-level student of the Federal University, Dutse, Aminu Muhammad, in a custodial centre for allegedly criticing the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari.
