The Rivers State Executive Council has submitted that police authority or operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad found guilty of brutality and other forms of human right abuses should compensate their victims. CCT Chairman, Umar’s ‘Biafran Boys’ Comment Xenophobic, Liable to Five-Year Imprisonment – Falana

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, has described the Code of Conduct, CCT, Chairman, Danladi Umar’s use of “Biafran boys” to classify the traders he had a fracas with at Banex Plaza in Abuja where he assaulted a security guard as xenophobic and liable to five-year sentence. The CCT chairman was caught in a viral video punching a security guard following a disagreement at the parking lot of the plaza. In its reaction, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, the CCT Spokesperson, said in a statement that the guard threatened Umar, while some "Biafran boys" also harassed him. An Abuja Court is set to hear a suit against Hajia Zainab Dakingari, a daughter of the late President Umaru Yar’adua and wife of former Kebbi State Governor Sa’idu Dakingari, for perpetrating an alleged N2 billion land fraud which involved her firm and another firm, ITBAN Global Resources Limited. Zainab was indicted for the alleged fraudulent take over of 1.5 hectares of land in the Kado area belonging to ITBAN firm and erected buildings on the site. NBA Frowns at Alleged Assault of Security Guard by CCT Chair

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has frowned at the alleged assault of a security guard by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Danladi, saying such action is unbecoming of a legal practitioner. The NBA in a statement by its Public Secretary, Rapulu Nduka, on Thursday said described Danladi’s action as unfortunate in view of his high office. According to the statement, preliminary investigation suggests that Umar failed to uphold good conduct expected of a public officer occupying such high office as CCT Chairman. Nigerian Arrested for Obtaining Ghanaian Passport

A 28-year-old Nigerian man has been repatriated by the Kaneshie District Court for illegally acquiring a Ghanaian passport and birth certificate. The man identified as Iyamu, aka Anthony Kwarteng, had acquired a Ghanaian passport in Spain through a friend but the passport got missing when he paid a visit to Nigeria. He was arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service, GIS, while attempting to secure a new Ghanaian Passport at the Passport Application Centre, PAC, at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra. The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice Simeon Amadi as the Chief Judge. He is the second most senior judge of the state High Court. Following a letter from Governor Nyesom Wike that sought Amadi’s confirmation and approval based on the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommendation. A Federal High Court Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo has knocked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC, over its incorrect report of court proceedings posted on its official Twitter page. The Supreme Court has upheld a criminal breach of trust brought up against jailed former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye. The former governor has approached the court to overturn the November 16, 2018 judgement of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which found him culpable and sentenced him to 10 years for diverting public funds estimated at N1.162 billion while he was the Governor of Plateau. The apex court on Friday upheld the 10-year jail term imposed on Dariye upon his conviction on the charge of criminal breach of trust. It, however, set aside the charge that alleged misappropriation of fund, which prescribed a two-year sentence for Dariye.

A lawyer, Kenechukwu Okeke, who filed a criminal complaint before an Abuja Magistrate Court over the actions of 50 persons, including celebrities during the October 2020 EndSARS struggles, has been confirmed to be fake and never called to the bar.
