However, beyond the encomiums, an investigation by Premium Times has revealed that Obi is not entirely transparent in his affairs as he likes Nigerians to believe. Appeal Court Joins Lagos in FIRS Appeal Over VAT Collection

The court of appeal, Abuja division, has granted the application of the Lagos state government as a co-respondent in the appeal filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The FIRS is challenging the judgment of the federal high court, Port Harcourt, which restrained the agency from collecting VAT and personal income tax (PIT) in Rivers state. At the lower court, the FIRS had appealed for a stay of execution, but the court dismissed it on the basis that it would “negate the principle of equity”. Consequently, FIRS went to the court of appeal. On September 10, the Attorney-general of Lagos, Moyosore Onigbanjo, applied to be joined as a party in the appeal. The state had also passed a VAT bill into law. Onigbanjo had submitted that the outcome of the appeal would have ...

Kanu’s Release A Challenge S’East Leaders Must Achieve – Ohanaeze

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation; Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has described as unnecessary the plan by Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to lock down the South-East, noting that it will inflict more injuries on the people of the region. Ohanaeze said to bring Nnamdi Kanu out from detention was a task the leaders of the South-East must achieve, adding that other means to bring him out other than the court process was being considered. The organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, said he didn’t believe it was IPOB as couched by Kanu that issued the threat. He said, “I am aware that since Nnamdi Kanu went in, we have cacophony of voices as representing Nnamdi Kanu. We have two to three denominations of IPOB now, but the one that appeals to people now is the one that ...
