Reps Fault Chinese Loan Terms, as FG Confirms Sovereignty Clause

The House of Representatives has frowned at the sovereignty clause in Nigeria’s loan agreement with China, describing it as dangerous. Nicholas Ossai, Chairman of the House Committee on Treaties, Protocols and Agreements stated this at the investigative hearing on external loans and commercial agreements, saying Nigeria’s loan agreement with China was overseen by Chinese laws. He said Nigerian officials have been going against the Executive Order providing guidelines on waiver of sovereign immunity during loan and commercial agreement negotiations which the Federal Government signed in 2014. El-Rufai Reiterates Support for Southern Presidency in 2023

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has insisted on his support for rotation of presidency to the southern region in 2023. He disclosed this while speaking on Channel TV’s Sunday Politics, saying that based on arrangement, the presidency should be shifted to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. The government of Rwanda has said schools will remain shut till comprehensive risk assessment is conducted which will determine period and method of resumption. The decision on school reopening is one among other resolutions reached by the cabinet after a meeting on Friday, August 14 in Kigali.
