The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured air travelers of its readiness to serve Nigerians during the Sallah celebrations. A statement released through its Twitter handled signed by Henrietta Yakubu General Manager, Corporate Affairs expressed its commitment to ensure safety of its airports and travelers. The Federal Government is ensuring gradual reopening of airports after closure due to COVID-19 pandemic. FG Declares July 30, 31 Public Holiday to Mark Sallah

The Federal Government of Nigeria has said that Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31 will be observed as public holidays to heed Eid-el-Kabir Celebration. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah announced in a statement on Tuesday. The statement contained a congratulatory message to Muslim faithful and Nigerians by Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior. Moroccans Risk Fine, Jail for Failing to Wear Mask in Public

Moroccan government on Saturday said citizens who fail to wear face mask in public could be fine a maximum of 140 U.S dollars or up to three months incineration. The Interior Ministry said in a statement, “Anyone who refuses to wear a mask in public will face a term of one to three months’ imprisonment and a fine of between 32 dollars and 140 dollars, without excluding other severe criminal penalties.” This warning follows “the laxity of certain people with regard to compliance with the mandatory measures of wearing protective masks outside the home,” the ministry statement noted. More than one Month after Abuja Concert, Naira Marley Yet to be Prosecuted

As Nigeria battle to contain the spread of COVID-19, the country in line with global containment measure imposed a nationwide lockdown.   The imposed lock down restricted inter-state travels across Nigeria. COVID-19: Tunisia Bars Ships of French Transport Company, Corsica Linea from Anchoring on its Ports

Tunisia has banned the ships of French transport company Corsica Linea from docking on its shores as crew test positive for COVID-19. Habib Ghedira, member of Tunisia’s committee to confront the COVID-19 was quoted by Mosaique FM radio on Saturday to have said that that the decision was taken by government to preempt spread of the disease in the North African country. This came after many crew members of a ship belonging to Corsica Linea company, which operated the Marseille-Tunis route from July 1 to July 10, tested positive for COVID-19. In addition, on July 14, another vessel of the same company that docked in the port of La Goulette in Tunis had eight people who tested positive for COVID-19. COVID-19 Update: Nigeria Reports 653 New COVID-19 Cases, Brings Confirmed Cases to 36,107

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 653 new cases of COVID-19, in the country. Nigeria currently has 36,107 confirmed cases with 778 deaths while 14,938 patients have been discharged so far. Lagos Doctors Embark on a 3-day Warning Strike over Safety and Welfare Concerns

Doctors in Lagos state, Nigeria under the auspices of the Medical Guild in Lagos, will begin a three-day warning strike from today, 13th July, 2020 due to safety and welfare issues. Chairman of the Guild, Dr Oluwajimi Sodipo disclosed the position of the association at a briefing on Sunday in Lagos. The Guild consists of medical doctors employed by the Lagos State Government. Sodipo said that the association exempted members working in the state’s COVID-19 isolation centres and the industrial action would commence on Monday, July 13 and end on 16. He said the Congress of the Guild had approved the extension of the two weeks-notice to the state government on June 27, after the initial 21 days ultimatum to settle the issues elapsed. Nigeria’s House of Representatives have asked the Federal Government to reconsider its position on the cancellation of the 2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Their position was contained in a statement released in Abuja by the Chairman of the   House Committee on Basic Education and Services, Julius Ihonvbere (APC-Edo) on Friday.
