One Million Africans May Die Of Cancer By 2030 – WHO

Dr Matshidisco Moeti, the World Health Organisation, WHO, Regional Director for Africa, expressed fear that cancer mortality may rise to about one million deaths per year by 2030 in Africa if urgent actions and interventions are not undertaken. Moeti said that an estimated 1.1 million new cancer cases are recorded every year in Africa, with about 700,000 deaths. She disclosed this in a message to mark the 2023 World Cancer Day. A female corpse yet to be identified scheduled to be buried on Saturday has been reported missing from the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State. A source at the hospital who spoke to Punch said the drama began on Friday when the family of the deceased came to the hospital to take the body for burial only to discover that the corpse was missing. A total of 439 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates failed the assessment examination organised by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). The MDCN conducted the two-day assessment examination on November 23 and 24, 2022, at Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
