Doctors Suspend Strike in Zamfara

Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its one week strike it embarked on to protest poor remuneration. The Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature, announced the suspension in a statement in Gusau on Tuesday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMA on December 10 directed its members to embark on a one-week strike. “I write to inform the public that the NMA has suspended the one-week strike it embarked upon last Thursday,’’ Bature said. BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Tests Positive For COVID-19

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tested positive for coronavirus. The state health commissioner, Akin Abayomi announced this on Saturday. African News Today had earlier reported that the governor had gone into isolation on Friday following contact with persons infected with the virus. Abayomi said the Governor is currently experiencing “mild symptoms and fatigue typical of a mild case of COVID.” In a statement, he added that Sanwo-Olu is receiving treatment and is being closely monitored at home by a clinical team from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba. “Mr. Sanwo-Olu is doing well on treatment and rest and we are confident that he will recover quickly and clear the virus,” the statement said.

COVID-19: Sanwo-Olu Goes into Self-Isolation

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has gone into self-isolation following the news of one of his close aides testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, the unnamed aide was said to have tested positive, necessitating the governor to proceed on self-isolation. The governor and other members of his team will be tested by the Lagos State biobank but will remain in isolation until the results of the test are available. “This is not the first time the governor is having the COVID-19 test. Yellow Fever Death Toll Rises to 20 in Benue State

Following the death of three persons from a disease suspected to be yellow fever, the death toll occasioned by the disease has risen to 20 at Okpeilo-Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State. Andrew Amee, Permanent Secretary of the state's Ministry of Health had on Tuesday raised the alarm over a “strange illness” that had claimed 17 lives. Speaking in a phone interview on Saturday, the state epidemiologist, Dr Sam Ngishe, said three more deaths had been recorded, bringing the number of deaths to 20 – 19 males and a female – all aged between seven and 40. Ngishe also said 26 people, two females and 24 males, had fallen ill with the sickness.
