Ghana to Receive World’s First Doses of Free Covax Vaccines -UNICEF

Ghana is scheduled to receive Wednesday the first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines from Covax, a World Health Organization-backed effort to procure and distribute inoculations for free to poor countries. “These 600,000 Covax vaccines are part of an initial tranche of deliveries of the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine licensed to the Serum Institute of India, which represent part of the first wave of Covid vaccines headed to several low and middle-income countries,” said UNICEF, which organised the shipment from Mumbai, in a joint statement with the WHO. Covax has said it would deliver two billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines globally by the end of 2021. AFP

Anambra Govt Introduces Curfew to Curb the Spread of COVID-19, Among Other Measures

The Anambra State government has announced the introduction of curfew in the state, to help curb the spread of COVID-19 virus. The curfew which will last from 9 pm to 6 am daily, will start on Monday, 8th February, 2021 (today) until further notice. This was disclosed by The Secretary to the Anambra State government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, who told Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), that His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano has directed that civil servants in the state, from grade level one to twelve should work from home until further notice, with immediate effect. WHO Disqualifies Nigeria From Global Vaccine Bid

Nigeria’s bid to acquire COVID-19 vaccine has suffered a setback as the World Health Organisation-led COVAX global initiative has failed to shortlist the country for the Pfizer vaccines over its inability to meet the standard requirement of storing the vaccines at the required -70 degrees Celsius. Anthony Okorodas, a High Court Judge in Delta State has said DNA tests disclosed that three children he had with his first wife are not his. He said the discovery was made after he had sponsored the university education of two of them while the third one was already 17 years old. Egypt Set to Receive COVID-10 Vaccines Today

Egypt is set to receive its first set of the COVID-10 vaccine developed by Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca on Sunday (today). According to the Egyptian authority in charge of the acquisition of the procurement of pharmaceuticals announced on Saturday, “the arrival of the first batch of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine tomorrow, Sunday January 31, 2021”, without specifying the number of doses, AFP reported.
