Enugu Govt Grieves Over Death of Ekweremadu

Enugu State government has expressed its deepest sadness over the death of the Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. Mathias Ekweremadu Jnr, who died on Thursday, February 4, 2021, while in active service. Enugu State Govt Explains Exemption of Teachers, Other from Payment of Minimum Wage

The government of Enugu State has explained that the reason why some civil servants, including primary school teachers were yet to be paid the new minimum wage was that it was working to fully capture every worker in their payroll. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Adaona Uyawune during the press briefing on the 2021 Appropriation Law of Enugu State. According to Uyawune, departments and agencies of the state relied on subventions to pay their workers, who were basically ad hoc staff. The state government had begun the payment of the new minimum wage in February 2020, though some workers in departments and agencies of the state government, including primary school teachers, have yet to start enjoying such benefit. Enugu Approves January 18 for School Resumption

Following a meeting of stakeholders in the education sector on Monday, the Enugu State Ministry of Education has announced January 18, 2021, as resumption date for all schools in the state. This was contained in a statement by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze. He said the decision was reached at a meeting between the Ministry and major stakeholders in the sector, on Monday. Following public outcry over the cancellation of conventional cross-over night activities on 31st December, 2020 in Enugu State, the state government has clarified that "the said cancellation refers strictly to the cross-over night activities organised by the Enugu State Government". The clarification was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh. Relocate Upland to Safer Ground, Red Cross Tells Residents of Flood Prone Communities as NiMet Raises Flood Alert

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Enugu Chapter has asked residents of flood prone areas in Enugu State to relocate to safer ground as it aims to avert loss of lives and properties in the event of flood. The call was made when the group embarked on a sensitization campaign in Enugu along with other stakeholders to educate the residents on flood preparedness, mitigation and response. It comes after predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) that 2020 will witness heavy rainfall with potential flood.
