School Reopening: PTF Rolls Out New Guidelines

Following federal government’s directive on school resumption as from October 12, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has released fresh guidelines for the reopening of schools across the country. This was disclosed by National Coordinator of the PTF, Dr Sani Aliyu during press briefing on Thursday. Sani said the new guidelines were developed by the PTF in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Mallam Muhammad Bello, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has announced the resumption of schools across the capital city with effect from October 11th, 2020. Nigeria: No Date for Reopening of Orientation Camps – NYSC

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stated that there is no official date for the reopening of camps nationwide. There has been widespread reports on social media that Orientation Course will resume 27th October 2020 with Batch “A” Stream 2 and that the batch has been subdivided into Batches “A” and “B”. The Corps said it was waiting for approval for the reopening of orientation camps having made a presentation before the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19. Update: FG Orders Reopening of Unity, Private Schools

The Federal Government has approved the reopening of all Unity Schools in Nigeria with effect from October 12. Government shutdown schools indefinitely in March as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, disclosed this during a news briefing in Abuja on Friday. Adamu also stated that private and state schools are allowed to fix resumption dates. He added that schools who fail to comply to stipulated COVID-19 safety guidelines, risk being shutdown if there is an outbreak from such schools. “We have come to the conclusion that we have to review our decisions. After consultation with PTF, we have resolved that our Unity Schools be opened on October 12, 2020,” he said.

The Rivers State Government has approved Monday, October 5 as resumption date for universities, other tertiary institutions, secondary and vocational schools in the state.
