Pantami Not Qualified To Be A Professor – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi State, has faulted the appointment of Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, as a Professor of Cyber Security by the Governing Council and the management of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). The association maintained it was not convinced that due processes were followed in the appointment. ATBU is Pantami’s alma mater where he started his career as a lecturer. Gunmen Attack University Of Abuja Staff Quarters, Abduct Professor, Children, Others

A professor of Economics at the University of Abuja, Obansa Joseph has been abducted by gunmen. According to reports, the don, his children and some other people were abducted after the gunmen invaded the staff quarters of the University. A source and resident of the quarters, who spoke on condition of anonymity told the newspaper that the gunmen invaded the senior staff quarters at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at 1 am on Tuesday and operated for about an hour. Delta Poly Student Stabs Boyfriend Over WhatsApp Chats

A mass communication student of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, identified simply as Chidinma, has reportedly stabbed her boyfriend, Daniel Johnson, over WhatsApp chats with another female friend. The PUNCH gathered that the victim was stabbed by the lady on Wednesday, October 27. He however survived the attack. Narrating his ordeal to journalists after his recuperation, the victim stated that his girlfriend went through his WhatsApp messages while he was asleep before stabbing him with a knife. ASUU Rejected Planned N1m Undergraduate School Fees, Says Osodeke

The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Emmanuel Osodeke, has revealed how the union, during its last negotiations, rejected Federal Government’s plan to increase school fees of all university students to N1m. He said the government’s plan was to open an education bank and give each student a loan of N1m annually at five per cent interest rate to sponsor themselves in school and then pay back when they graduate and start working. Osodeke stated this while answering questions from participants at a one-day ‘state of the nation summit’ organised for ASUU members by the Bauchi zone of the union. NECO Releases 2021 Examination Results

The National Examination Council on Friday announced the release of the results of the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted nationwide in July. NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dantali Wushishi, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Minna. He said that out of 1,233,631 candidates who registered, 1,226,631 actually sat for the examination. The Anambra State Government has approved Saturdays as school days in place of Mondays, which have been taken by the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). IPOB had on July 30 ordered a sit-at-home protest in the South-East every Monday until Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, would be released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). The Central Bank of Nigeria has said it will support youths in tertiary institutions with grants to promote entrepreneurship and reduce unemployment. The CBN disclosed this on Wednesday in a report, titled ‘Guidelines for the implementation of tertiary institutions entrepreneurship scheme’. “Five top Nigerian polytechnics and universities with the best entrepreneurial pitches/ideas shall be awarded as follows: first place – N150m; second place – N120m; third place – N100m; fourth place – N80m; and fifth place – N50m,” it said. FG Allocates N5.9tn To Education, Health, Defence, Infrastructure

The Federal Government has allocated the sum of N5.93tn to critical sectors of the economy including defence, health, education and infrastructure. According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, the Federal Government prioritised defence and infrastructure sectors in the 2022 budget by allocating N2.41tn and N1.45tn to these sectors respectively, which represent N15 per cent and N8.9 per cent of the total budget. Ahmed disclosed this at the “Public Presentation and Breakdown of the Highlights of the 2022 Appropriation Bill’’ held in Abuja on Friday.
